Millions of Muslims from different countries gather in Saudi Arabia every year to perform the holy Hajj. To ensure healthcare and safety for pilgrims, the Saudi authorities issue various guidelines every year. This time, the Saudi Food and Drug Authority (SFDA) has introduced new rules for carrying certain types of medicines.

The authority said pilgrims must collect prior permission and submit specific documents to carry such medicines.

According to Gulf News, Hajj pilgrims must open a personal traveler account in the Saudi authorities’ Electronic Controlled Drugs System (CDS) and apply with the required documents.

The required documents include a copy of the passport, a valid prescription or medical report issued within the last six months, and photos of the medicine and its packaging. Applicants must submit online copies of their passport, a valid medical prescription or report issued within the last six months, and clear photos of the medicine with its packaging.

The authority said Hajj pilgrims can carry medicines only for the duration of their stay, up to a maximum of 30 days. That means if a pilgrim stays for 15 days, they can carry medicines for only 15 days.

The SFDA said these measures were introduced to ensure a safe and smooth experience for Hajj pilgrims, while also protecting public health and monitoring the use of controlled medicines in the holy places.
