Representatives of garment workers and owners have agreed to make the new minimum wage for garment workers effective from December. However, workers will receive the new wages from January 2027.

The representatives of workers and owners reached an agreement on the issue at the first meeting of the Minimum Wage Board at Segunbagicha in the capital on Wednesday (November 4).

After the meeting, workers' representative Babul Akter shared the information while briefing journalists. He said the new wages would be effective from December, and workers would receive them from January.

The owners' representative, A B M Shamsuddin, also confirmed the same information. He said the new wage structure would come into effect from December, and workers would receive salaries at the new rates in January next year.

The first meeting of the Minimum Wage Board was held today as part of the process of determining the new minimum wage for workers in the garment sector. Both sides reached an agreement on the timeline for implementing the new wages.
